 Andrew Cox BA, MA, Ph.D, FRICS, FRSA
Andrew Cox is Professor in Business Strategy and Procurement at Birmingham University’s Business Schoo , and is Chairman of Robertson Cox, a competence development, consultancy and publishing.
The Centre for Business Strategy and Procurement undertakes dedicated research in all aspects of business strategy, supply chain management and procurement competence. Professor Cox has been awarded two major grants totalling £750,000 from the EPSRC to undertake research projects in the Effective Management of Supply Chains. This involves working closely with a number of major UK and US companies in the development of audit tools for the strategic and operational alignment of supply chain management. Professor Cox has also undertaken an extensive survey of the effective use of business tools and techniques by major multinational companies. He was also involved in a survey of the impact of e-business on the strategy, internal processes and procurement, logistics and supply chain management functions of European companies.
Professor Cox and his colleagues at Robertson Cox are currently working closely with a number of leading American and European multinationals on the effective alignment of overall corporate strategy with procurement and supply chain management strategies. This work involves the development of internal competence in procurement and supply management—both within purchasing and within other organisational functions and levels as well. Current and recent clients include: IBM, BP, Cadbury Schweppes, Exxon, Clancy Docwra, Shell, Thames Water, JPMorgan Chase, Capital One, Halliburton, Schlumberger, Rolls Royce, Stolt Offshore, AMEC, United Utilities and Grace Chemicals.
Professor Cox is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply in the UK, holder of the Swinbank Medal for Outstanding Services to Purchasing and Supply, and Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, Commerce and Manufacture. He has also acted as adviser and consultant to the British Government and the European Commission.
